Gotcha4Life was established to reverse the tide of declining mental health and to reduce suicide throughout Australia.
The mental health stats out there are scary and this pandemic isn't helping.
1 in 8 will experience ANXIETY.
1 in 5 will experience DEPRESSION.
And if you go to the extreme, the leading cause of death for people aged 15-44 is suicide.
Now you obviously can't control how people are feeling.
But you can learn how to tell the signs.
You can learn how to create spaces and environments for those you care about to be able to express themselves.
You can learn how to speak up and have the conversations, even if they feel awkward.
And by learning these skills you can hopefully give the next generation a good chance of changing some of those stats.
This challenge will raise much needed funds to enable Gotcha4LIfe and their programs partners to facilitate workshops to teach these skills and build the mental fitness of our communities
Man Up Documentary
This was my first introduction to Gus and the work he was doing in the Men’s Mental Fitness space. I still vividly remember watching this documentary at home and being moved to tears.
The doco follows Gus around trying to understand the male suicide crisis after losing a friend close to him. This not only opened my eyes to the issue, but also to the great work being done by organisations like Tomorrow Man and Tomorrow Woman.
Gotcha4LIfe
After the success of the Man UP documentary in creating awareness around the world Gus then went on to set up Gotcha4Life.
Gotcha4Life is a not-for-profit foundation created to reverse the trend of declining mental health in Australia and tackle the nation’s alarming suicide rates.
Tomorrow Man and tomorrow woman
Tomorrow Man and Tomorrow Woman facilitate workshops in schools, clubs, and workplaces in the community. They explore how we can look our families, our friends, our work colleagues….and of course ourselves.
I’ve been to a lot of workshops in my life - both at work and in my personal life. I went along to 2 of their workshops and was blown away.
